Join Valerie Kent for an art enthusiast’s dream trip, spending 7 nights cruising the wine region of Provence aboard the deluxe River Royale. Provence is brilliant with lavender, sun flowers, and the azure blue of the Mediterranean. You can smell the Rosemary and Thyme growing wild. No wonder Cezanne stayed here all his life, Van Gogh made splendid canvases here and Gaughin was as happy with the colour here as in the South Pacific.

After the 7 night cruise, we will spend an additional 4 nights in the beautiful Roman Spa, and university town of Aix-en-Provence!

Mixed Media Workshop Wellington Artists' Gallery and Art Centre Fergus, Ontario
September 27and 18, 2008

Like an excellent recipe that has been treasured through the years and lovingly handed down, we add a pinch of this and a magical touch of that. Mixed media is just such a process. We lovingly add the materials and the creativity to make something new that will be savoured and enjoyed. Resources are dried plant material, tiny glass beads, egg shells, cheese cloth, oriental exotic paper, found paper and stamped paper, inks, watercolours, acrylics, sand, pumice, feathers and just so much more. And the results are much more exciting, unexpected and delightful than any of the individual parts. Bring your sense of adventure and let's make magic together. There will be demos, discussion about the elements and principles of design and critiques to see what strong art-making is inherent in each work. This is suitable for newer and seasoned artists.

Multi-Media Workshop

We set out on a journey together to see what we can see. And to see how far we can go. Off in the distance there is a secret door beyond which is a mystery which we can explore and examine. We learn a lot about our intuitive selves and we use our materials to create something new and something different. We surprise ourselves. We can work on canvas with fluid or soft bodied acrylic and many other materials, and/or on paper with a multitude of media. There will be collaging, creating papers, monoprinting, starch painting, and a number of other techniques introduced. The work may be realistic or abstract. The same elements and principles of design apply. There will be demos, discussion about the elements and principles of design and critiques to see what strong art-making is inherent in each work. This is suitable for newer and seasoned artists.
